A leading consumer goods manufacturer, known for established household brands across North America, partnered with a contract packager in Wisconsin to launch a new eco-friendly insecticide formulation. The product was based on cedar oil — a natural essential oil derived from cedar trees — selected for its effective pest-repellent properties and plant-based sustainability profile.
While the formulation performed well chemically, production challenges emerged during scale-up. The low-viscosity liquid contained suspended solids that separated during holding and filling. This caused visible inconsistency in the packaged product and risked compromising both appearance and performance, creating a barrier to commercial launch.
