After reviewing the application, Fristam recommended one of its Powder Mixers, an inline system that combines a self-priming FZX Liquid Ring Pump for powder induction and an FS Shear Blender for high-shear dispersion. This configuration efficiently draws cocoa into the fluid stream and blends it on first pass, dramatically reducing mixing time and ensuring thorough incorporation of dry powders into liquid media.
For this cereal coating application, the selected model included factory-specified options such as:
- Extended funnel height to accommodate larger volumes
- Funnel vibrator to prevent powder bridging
- Funnel lid for hygiene and contamination control
- Double seals for handling sticky, high-viscosity product
This tailored setup ensured optimal performance for the customer’s specific formulation and production demands.
Trial set-up
1. Installation and integration
The Powder Mixer was installed inline with the existing batch tank circulation loop, replacing the top-entry mixer’s role in powder introduction and high-shear blending.
2. Powder induction configuration
Cocoa powder was introduced into the extended funnel, where the FZX pump generated vacuum to pull solids into the liquid stream below.
3. High-shear dispersion
As the mixture passed through the FS Shear Blender, close rotor-stator clearance and high tip speeds ensured uniform wet-out and dispersion of cocoa particles into the syrup.
4. Process observation and optimization
Trial runs were monitored for flow stability, dispersion quality, and mixing time, with operators adjusting powder addition sequence to achieve optimal results.
