Fristam FS โ Shear Blender
High-shear hygienic inline blender designed to create uniform, stable, and fully homogeneous liquid products across food, dairy, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and chemical processing.
What is the Fristam FS Shear Blender?
The Fristam FS Shear Blender is a hygienic inline high-shear rotor-stator mixer designed to disperse, emulsify, dissolve, and homogenize powders or liquids into liquids and/or create a smoother mouthfeel to pre-mixed products.
Product flows directly through an intermeshing rotor-stator mixing zone where controlled shear energy ensures a rapid particle size reduction, uniform dispersion, and stable emulsification.
This produces consistent texture, controlled viscosity, and repeatable product quality across food, dairy, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and chemical applications.
The FS is engineered for installation in closed hygienic production lines and supports full Clean-in-Place (CIP) operation, enabling reliable, sanitary, and efficient high-shear inline mixing at industrial scale.

How the Fristam FS Shear Blender works
- Product is drawn into the rotor-stator mixing head where high rotational speed generates intense shear energy within the processing zone.
- As the rotating teeth pass within approximately 0.5 mm (0.02 in) of the stationary stator teeth, extreme turbulence and mechanical shear disperse particles โ breaking down agglomerates and emulsifying product into a fine and uniform structure.
- Centrifugal force then accelerates the homogenized product toward the outlet, ensuring continuous inline processing and consistent final product quality are achieved within the FS Shear Blender, before being transported to the next phase of production.
- The hygienic design supports full Clean-in-Place (CIP) and optional Sterilization-in-Place (SIP) without disassembly, enabling reliable operation in regulated industrial environments.
Fristam FS vs FSP Shear Blenders
Although six rotor-stator combinations are available to achieve the precise shear level required for each application, the Fristam Shear Blender is offered in two primary configurations: the FS and the FSP.
The FS โ is designed for maximum high-shear performance, using a dense rotor-stator tooth geometry to deliver intensive dispersion, emulsification, particle size reduction, and full homogenization where the highest product uniformity and stability are required.
The FSP โ incorporates an integrated impeller within the rotor to provide additional pumping and product transfer while blending. This dual mixing and pumping-function enables self-feeding operation and gentle product handling, but with slightly lower shear intensity than the FS due to reduced rotor-stator tooth density.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Fristam FS Shear Blender is a hygienic inline high-shear rotor-stator mixer used to disperse, emulsify, dissolve, and homogenize powders or liquids in liquids within continuous industrial processing. It produces uniform particle size distribution, stable emulsions, controlled viscosity, and repeatable product quality across food, dairy, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and chemical production.
Inline high-shear mixers like the Fristam FS Shear Blender rapidly blend, emulsify, and homogenize liquids or finely divided solids during continuous processing. They improve dispersion quality, reduce mixing time, and create consistent final product structure compared with traditional tank mixing.
The FS processes product directly through a high-shear rotor-stator mixing zone rather than relying on bulk tank agitation. This delivers faster particle size reduction, improved emulsion stability, more uniform texture, and highly repeatable processing performance, while also reducing mixing time, energy use, and the risk of unmixed regions within the product.
Product enters a precision rotor-stator mixing head where high rotational speed generates intense shear forces. Turbulence and mechanical shear disperse particles, break down agglomerates, and create a fine homogeneous structure before centrifugal force moves the processed product to the outlet for continuous inline production.
The FS Shear Blender can process liquids with viscosities up to approximately 100,000 cP, depending on configuration, rotor-stator geometry, operating conditions and motor power.
Revolution speeds can reach up to around 5,800 rpm with shear rates up to approximately 125,000 sโปยน, enabling rapid dispersion, emulsification, and homogenization in demanding hygienic applications.
