Precision mixing & blending for chemical processing and formulation
Fristam's Mixing & Blending specialists design high-performance powder mixing systems for the demanding realities of chemical production: controlled reactions, consistent product quality, safe material handling and reliable, scalable processing.
Our stainless-steel powder induction and inline mixing technologies enable fast, controlled incorporation of powders into liquids for applications including chemical solutions, suspensions, emulsions, polymer preparations, detergents, coatings, surface treatments, speciality chemicals and intermediate compounds. The result is predictable dispersion, shorter processing times and stable, repeatable formulations.
From pigments, fillers and salts to polymers, surfactants, catalysts, thickeners and functional additives, Fristam mixing systems are engineered to wet and disperse solids efficiently — helping chemical producers achieve uniformity, stability and controlled product performance.
Why chemical manufacturers choose Fristam Mixing Technology
In chemical processing, mixing quality directly affects reaction rates, product performance, safety and downstream processing. Poor dispersion can cause inconsistent reactions, sedimentation, unstable emulsions or costly off-spec production. Fristam mixing systems are designed to give chemical engineers full control over these variables.
What sets Fristam mixing technology apart in chemical applications:
Controlled Solid–Liquid Interaction: Powders are inducted directly into the liquid stream under vacuum and dispersed immediately, preventing floating solids, dusting and agglomerates that can disrupt reactions or product quality.
Reliable Dispersion Across a Wide Range of Chemistries: High-shear mixing allows pigments, polymers, salts and additives to be evenly distributed, supporting uniform color, viscosity, reactivity and performance.
Designed for Process Safety and Containment: Closed powder induction reduces airborne dust and operator exposure, supporting safer handling of fine, hazardous or irritant chemical powders.
Improved Process Stability: Uniform mixing prevents concentration gradients that can cause runaway reactions, inconsistent curing, phase separation or unstable formulations.
Adaptable to Changing Formulations: Systems can be configured for low-viscosity solutions through to thick, highly loaded chemical slurries, supporting both batch and continuous production.
Engineered for Industrial Environments: Robust stainless-steel construction and process-ready designs allow integration into chemical plants, skid systems and pilot-to-production scale-ups.

These are depictions of our standard powder mixers, blenders and colloid mills. However, around 70% of the mixers we deliver are adapted — in both small and substantial ways — to suit specific chemical processes, product properties and plant standards.
Fristam Mixing & Blending FAQ for the chemical industry
Fristam Powder Mixers, Shear Blenders and Colloid Mills are engineered for controlled, closed-system chemical processing. Smooth product-contact surfaces, sealed construction and corrosion-resistant stainless steel support safe handling of hazardous, corrosive and high-purity chemicals.
Yes. Fristam mixing systems are available with:
- ATEX-rated configurations
- Hygienic, 3A approved design (for fine and specialty chemicals)
- FDA-compliant materials where required
- ISO 9001 manufacturing
This supports compliance with chemical plant safety, quality and environmental standards.
Yes. Fristam chemical mixers are fully CIP-capable and can be cleaned without dismantling. This supports safe product changeovers between batches and prevents cross-contamination in multi-product chemical facilities.
Yes and no. Direct powder induction helps to prevent dust release and vapor escape, improving operator safety and reducing the risk of explosion, inhalation or environmental contamination. ATEX-certified components are available where required. However, certain chemical powders and liquids are naturally unsuitable to be mixed – your Fristam representative will guide you on this.
Fristam mixers are used for a wide range of chemical powders and additives including:
- Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) powders
- Fertilizers
- Calcium carbonate
- Carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC)
- Bentonite and layered silicates
- Micro-capsule powders
- Zeolite and aluminium hydroxide
- Pigments, fillers, polymers, resins and functional additives
These are commonly used in lubricants, drilling fluids, polyurethane production, coatings and speciality chemical formulations.
Powders are introduced directly into a controlled liquid stream, where immediate wetting and high-shear dispersion eliminate floating powders, fisheyes and undissolved particles.
Yes. Hydrophobic powders such as PTFE, electrostatic materials, fine pigments, polymer powders and thickeners are dispersed efficiently without floating or clumping.
Yes. Materials, seals and elastomers can be selected to withstand certain acid solutions, solvents, alkali solutions and abrasive mineral slurries such as calcium carbonate and silicates.
Inline powder induction ensures complete wetting and uniform distribution of solids, producing stable, homogeneous chemical formulations from batch to batch.
Yes. Controlled dispersion prevents settling, floating and concentration gradients, reducing formulation variability and rework.
Yes. High-shear dispersion delivers consistent colour, particle distribution and rheology in paints, inks, coatings, polymers and polyurethane systems.
Yes. Fristam powder mixers and shear blenders integrate easily into new or existing chemical process systems including blending skids, reactor feeds, slurry preparation and inline formulation.
Once installed, Fristam systems operate automatically with minimal manual input, improving safety, repeatability and process control.
Closed powder handling reduces dust, vapor release and manual bag tipping, lowering exposure risks and improving environmental control. Waist height operations means operators do not need to climb ladders to tip powders into a tank style design.
Inline powder induction delivers faster dispersion, better product quality and safer handling than manual powder addition to open tanks. Agglomerates cannot stick to tank walls and contaminate batches.
Yes. Efficient powder induction and closed transfer significantly reduce material losses during addition and mixing, helping to maximise the amount of valuable pigments, polymers and specialty chemicals that end up in the final product.
Lower energy consumption, reduced rework, minimal maintenance and long service life help reduce overall operating costs.
